Youth Corps is committed to making a difference in the lives of young people. The programming provided by Youth Corps is designed to bring about positive change physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. It is with this commitment that we provide a program which truly does facilitate change in the lives of youth!
OUR OBJECTIVES
- To develop the adolescent’s personal attributes of integrity, persistence, leadership, self-confidence, responsibility, and cooperative teamwork
- To teach the importance and rewards of a positive work ethic
- To provide the opportunity for the adolescent to experience a sense of pride by helping others
- To assist adolescents in achieving high expectations and high personal standards that enhances their self-esteem and confidence for further success.
- To provide opportunities for community service as practical diversions from destructive behavior
The purpose of Youth Corps is to provide a program, which can encompass all areas needed to facilitate the development of productive, conscientious individuals. Throughout the process, young people have the opportunity to learn and grow, both emotionally and spiritually, as well as gain the confidence and self-esteem to be successful within themselves and in the community.
The program emphasizes the importance of a good work ethic, self-discipline, leadership, self-confidence, responsibility, teamwork, and effective employment skills while providing work experiences for the cadets.
Once camp is concluded, Youth Corps continues its commitment to positive role modeling and mentoring through the Community Outreach program and other programs, such as Color Guard for the Texas Tech Mens Basketball games.
Throughout the program, Youth Corps works to instill positive leadership and productive citizenship. The Cadet Pledge is an important aspect of the overall purpose of the program.
THE CADET’S PLEDGE: THE 4 Cs of the Corps WE BELIEVE IN…
Commitment = We believe in ourselves so that we are willing to do whatever is right and whatever it takes to focus on accomplishing our goals. Believing in one’s self is a result of “right” actions; right actions build confidence and self-esteem.
Cooperation = We believe in a group effort that uses and appreciates the strengths and talents of each individual to accomplish a goal. We value and respect diversity
Courage = We believe in the bravery it takes to do the “right” thing - especially under difficult circumstances.
Community = We believe in cultivating a feeling of responsibility to others. We share our abilities and knowledge with the people in our neighborhood, our country and our world.
